BUMBLEBEE

noun.

According to all aerodynamic laws, the bumblebee cannot fly because its body weight is not in the right proportion to its wingspan. But ignoring these laws, the bee flies anyway.

Stay fearless, and fly anyway.

How BUMBLEBEE Protects Fair Trade in Hong Kong's Food Delivery Market

Fair trade is built on a simple idea: every participant in a transaction deserves a fair deal — fair pricing for producers, transparent compensation for workers, and equitable value for consumers. In Hong Kong's food delivery industry, that principle is broken at every level.

Restaurants bleed 25–35% of every order to platforms like Foodpanda. Keeta initially lured couriers with ~HK$40 per delivery, then slashed it to as low as HK$20 — sparking strikes from 270+ riders in 2025 protesting algorithmic wage manipulation. Consumers pay $20–30 in delivery fees on top of their meal. A delivery workers' rights group was forced to cease operations entirely. The system extracts value from everyone it touches.

BUMBLEBEE exists to prove it doesn't have to work this way.

For restaurants: We charge 10% — a fraction of what major platforms demand. Restaurants keep the margins they need to survive, not surrender them to a platform that treats them as replaceable supply.

For couriers: We pay transparent, trip-based rates with clear schedules. No algorithmic black box. No bait-and-switch. No gig economy ambiguity. Our couriers know exactly what they earn before they start.

For consumers: $0 delivery fee. Not subsidised by venture capital burn that disappears once market share is captured — funded structurally through batch delivery economics that make every trip efficient enough to sustain.

Everyone wins — or nobody flies.

This isn't charity. It's better economics. Fair trade applied to the last mile.

Questions & Answers

Why is delivery free?

Because restaurants fund it — not you. By batching multiple office orders into a single courier trip, the per-delivery cost drops dramatically. Restaurants pay a small service fee that's still 3-5x cheaper than what Foodpanda or Keeta charge them. The result: $0 delivery for you, more customers for them.

Why WhatsApp and not an app?

Because you already have WhatsApp. No download, no sign-up, no new password. You text, you order, you eat. It's the lowest-friction ordering experience possible — and it means we spend zero on app development and pass those savings back into the service.

How does group ordering work?

One person in your office opens a BUMBLEBEE thread on WhatsApp and starts a group order. Everyone picks from the curated restaurant menu. Once the group hits the minimum, the order locks in for your chosen delivery time slot. Lunch arrives together — no juggling five different apps and five different couriers.

What restaurants are available?

We hand-pick local partners in Hong Kong base on cuisine diversity, price range, and food quality. Think of it as a virtual food hall — a curated selection that covers everything from healthy grain bowls to comfort-food classics, all within a price range that makes sense for a daily lunch budget.
